scratch it off the list

this morning i kept hearing stories of people finding sunrise shells in unexpected places; i kept seeing people with sunrise shell pendants, and i do believe that one day i might get one from the ocean instead of having to buy one off of a crackhead.
and then i stumbled upon something i've looked for for a long long time.

the hawaiian monk seal, endangered amazing and actually right in front of me taking a nap.
thank you.

everything except the paper doll dress

these photos are old. and i am not a daily blogger. i'm just procrastinating doing my taxes. actually i'm in the middle of them and it's really not fun.

but fat tuesday last month was fun for some people! i was working in front of indigo, which was a great place to run into just about everyone, especially these crazy fun friends...angela, christen, and cori
i was supertame that night, just enjoying the people watching.

where oh where do you take lindsay on a hike, i ask myself. after all this rain, who wants to mudwrestle with a mountain?
so peacock flats one more time...

umm we got soaked

it was absolutely beautiful

so i returned a call,
after i calmed down. i decided it was time to be a good friend,
no matter what.

take a long drive.

maybe two.

but no more of this bus stop business for at least a quick minute...
patience.

i'm trying to accept that patience and desire
are the only tools i require.
they've gotten me this far!
into my own car!
oh lord i am so the worst poet.
cause that sucked.
plus i can't think of a thing that rhymes with risk, and that's the other part of the equation.
...
oh well.

windows and walls.

.........................................................................
...

there's been a lot of art being made, and unfortunately on my quest to design tattoos as a commission from a friend, i found one i want!

just the green and purple plant travelling up my side might be nice...
it's from the best book ever,
Drawing Upon Nature: Studies for the Blaschkas' Glass Models

perhaps i'll look back at this in a year and still want it.
perhaps.

for now i'm a little gun.shy.

so the east...

and the north...

and whatever's inbetween
(me and feeling fine)

road trips, flap jacks, and pau hana

oops. happy valentines day!
i'm a little behind schedule this month,
but i've been working hard.

The Forrest Through the Trees
and Abacus.

Using one of these devices as a child made math seem less abstract. Now I know how to add (believe it or not) but getting back to the fundamentals never seemed more appropriate. Paying my respects to the beginning of things.
Which comes first, the tree, the seed.

maybe it was in honor of the month that celebrates true love. maybe that's why this praying mantis was trying to romance my flip flop outside of haleiwa eats. try the chicken panang curry. it's amazing!

and haleiwa cafe serves up a mean breakfast in a barrel although this morning we were all slightly distracted by the love letter forrest received from a neighboring table.
flapjacks anyone?
we had to celebrate because gavin's song would be airing during a coke commercial during the superbowl!

the north shore was raaaaainy for a little bit there...we decided a road trip ~island style~ might be just the thing to cure the winter blues.
especially since you can see this entire island even if you start out around noon!

so from the west side we traveled east, into the rain.
but no road trip would be complete without at least a taste of the koolau mountains...

alas, then it was back to work for me for a second. on the uss missouri for indigo. we were so mad we had to work.

kidding!
i got mooned by some navy dudes and one of them was so drunk he climbed up onto the cannon reminding us all of cher in the turn back time video.
i always wanted to do that!
but he got some sharp words from the matriarch of the ship.

while we enjoyed a little pau hana.

peacock flats

patterns.

so much of life seems to be either a struggle against or an acceptance of
subconcious patterns.

certain triggers make me miss certain situations,
even ones that i know are baaad bad news.
but every once in a great while,
you might find yourself where i found myself on sunday,

glad for a new development in my sometimes routineless routine...

well placed shaker

yep.
hiking pretty much does it for me every time...
especially with my "sister."
i came back with a stack of paperbark, some seedpods, the usual.
thinking of a few art projects.
a long time ago, one of my very metropolitan friends was interrogating me about all of this time i spend
out there.
why? she wondered
what do you Do Out There?
i couldn't understand how she didn't understand the value of spending time with nature.
but i couldn't explain it either.

but the rest of this post she would probably understand.
good people.

lou is one of my favorite friends ever, such a real person!
his birthday was a blast
and reminded me of another time when he struck a solitary pose with a single balloon...

well placed shaker?
